Lifestyle
Delivering a perfectly laid-back lifestyle to those lucky enough to call it home, the seaside village of Altona is one of Melbourne’s fastest emerging areas. Lido’s residents are particularly blessed; right in the heart of it all with everything they could ever need on their doorstep. The beach is just down the road, allowing morning swims and relaxed evening strolls to become part of the daily routine. Providing the utmost convenience, the Pier St Village is just a block away, whilst parks and recreation centers are never further than a short walk away. With easy access to public transport and an abundance of schools close to home, this inner western suburb is a prime location, and a truly exceptional place to live.
A suburb with a distinct coastal vibe, Altona is home to one of only two swimming beaches in the west. Less than a 5-minute walk from Lido’s doorstep, the beach is incredibly pristine, boasting an idyllic pier which is well-known for its great fishing, crystal clear waters, an adjoining park and several picnic areas shrouded by Norfolk Island pines.
Cherry Lake is another beautiful destination, just a 15-minute stroll from Lido. Here the scenic walking and cycling trail extends for 3.5 kilometres, where catching a glimpse of native wildlife is common. For the health conscious there are numerous recreational facilities nearby; including a bowls club, golf course, gymnasiums, cycling tracks and the largest tennis facility in the western region.
As a flourishing suburb, new opportunities to wine and dine pop up frequently in Altona, particularly along the Pier St precinct. Just metres from home, Lido’s residents can wander over whenever they please for a bite at Rockabye Candy or Vince & Me - two trendy eateries emulating a cool, inner-city kind of atmosphere. When the dinner bell rings, Pier 71 E Cucina is another local favourite, a traditional Italian restaurant where wood fire pizzas, a generous wine list and frequent live music events make for memorable nights with loved ones. Altona’s shopping village is also conveniently located on Pier St, housing the likes of Coles and IGA.
A collection of well-regarded schools and early learning centres are found throughout Altona, accounting for the suburb’s family-friendly nature and strong community spirit. Ensuring there’s no shortage of choice when it comes to education, Altona Primary School and St Mary’s Primary School are both within walking distance of Lido and are renowned for their great facilities, exceptional programs and dedicated teachers. The suburb’s littlest ones are in safe hands at Altona Kindergarten, where imagination and self-confidence are encouraged.
When residents need to commute inward for work or play, Altona provides the utmost connectivity. 110 metres from Lido’s front door, Altona Train Station sits as part of the Werribee line, enabling a swift and seamless journey into the CBD, stopping at the vibrant suburbs of Yarraville, Footscray and North Melbourne along the way. Also nearby, the 415 bus shifts passengers over to historic Williamstown, whilst the 412 ferries off to Altona Gate Shopping Centre.
